Open book

Follow the crooked ridge
Here's a path in an open book
a story
a score
with few bifurcations

read forward
then backward
a crab canon

a moderately embellished climax
involving a locked tower
shaking with each interrogation

a walkthrough
monotonic almost
punctuated by minor switchbacks
a few hours
on slowly drained legs

through the tickets though
lies the unfathomable plotline
the loom and gloom
the smeared out smoke
of clouds
of mountain range

a tap on the shoulder
reader,
attention to the chorus of the leaves
a crescendo of an approaching drizzle
a soft hum in your ears
on your face

A cliff
like a death wish
hides behind lowered curtains
an invitation
a destination
a mountain
is a book.

Red-eyed trees

For the toss-and-turns of a
warm night
she did not sleep
the red-eyed tree.

Not delivered
the bleach-white cooling sheets
from dusk to midnight
from midnight to...
What is this?
An itch of a dawn
at her feet
yearning
peeking
yellowish green

Is this eternity then?
With her eyes wide open.
Is this undulation
a matter of fashion?
Or is she forever condemned
without resolution?

She thought about Antarctica
about icebergs
eternal nights
the object of fantasy
then repaid
with eternal sobriety

As she looks on
she contemplates
the river of puzzled gaze
Is this sympathy then?
Of the red-eyed riders
Engulfed by presumed destiny.

Imagined

A moon imagined
Behind whimpering clouds
Relieved from the gaze of
Lamps and rooftops

She must be round and plump
With her earth-born goddess
And her magical rabbit
With a Sisyphus
And an undying tree

She must squint at the sun
Blinded from her better reflections
On unscattered clouds
From remote messages
Sent before she was born

She would rather put on some shades
Or hide her face
But that would be
Half a moon away

She would tune in to a blue rock
To its vibes and tides
To occasional chatters
She would think with the back of her head
Of people imagined
With a verse about her.

Montage

She hears the speed of the wind

as a chatter through the banquet

in slow motion

pressing upon her path

She turns around and sees

faces from the future

into the past

feigned stability

It is fragile

like all consistency

that shatters in your hands

bleeding through

the dream you once again

wake up from

to put it together

a curious montage

silhouettes

she does not identify

yet, recognize

to let the chatter pass

she becomes invisible

let the fallen leaves be her mind

rest in the season.

Music box

A music box, they claim,
plays a melody.
In its stomach though
a thousand voices bleed through
a thread of time.

Classical almost,
and a pinch of modern atrocity,
or more likely
ripples at the mud puddle
sung to a drizzle.
An afterthought.

Dark, warm, acidic
muffled clashes.
With all pretension
the box couldn't tell
which thought was its own.

Rewind
Hoping the cacophony give way to
the right twist of time
convergence
or annihilation.

Over cranked
it spills a silent cadence
secretly rejoice
at home.

The Bay

Beaten path
to the corner of her eye
the duct of her waves

Brush over
overgrown lashes
in soft chants
they drown

The sea sighs in rhythm
on her drying cheek.

Voice in a river

A voice travels
in a river
scattered, unshattered
at times
pitchers of flashbacks
picked up from the floor
to the clouds

An estuary's
geometric discords
suspending hands over
blank scores

Choirs recast from
exotic swimmers among
graded flavors

Eroding sand piles conducting
water in crisis
to a deeper embrace
humming unfamiliar notes

In a deafening discourse
a voice returns
or not returns
to an absorbing silence
persisting in vain.

Teacher

A teacher
or a door
to an unimagined world
of strange
and stranger
creatures

of a pink sky
or a blue floor
afloat, marshmallow boats

of choreographed molecules
or enslaved shoes
a brain, in mindless moves

a teacher
or a world
over the shoulder
a disappearing
one way door.

Journey to the West

They sentence him to death
the murderous
Time

From tail to brow
travelers wander
from water
to stranger water
passing through what was left of
drained veins on a
red skull

In the company of windy thoughts
they were lost
in themselves
the wanderers of the skull

Into the past
of a dream foreseen
where lives could never live
wanderers of the disappearing womb
arrive at the beginning
where they've never been

The Machine

The giant lies on its side.
Blood spirals into
electric rivers
in a breathing box.

New souls are born on
the plastic prairie
now engulfed by fate,
their feet soldered to chains,
their voice turned into sand.

Were not for a paradoxical thought,
the giant would not have fallen
into silence.

Children watch for a hundred years of decay
waiting to live.

Whiskey emergency

Domes of oaks
perching by the water
are mildewed handles of a blue kettle
sitting on a cloud of barks
hunting for haunted souls.

The sun has fallen
in a hole of earth
mutters in a coma
cannot be heard
from three steps aside.

Trees fallen
in a darkness never seen
are flaming mementos of the day.

Shadows ambush the flickers.
A song beats the strings.
Dry tears of a whiskey bottle
roll down the chimney
left lukewarm.

Travelers await voices of the night
and a rescue awry.
Cold fog
descends on a torched face.

An emergency dawns on the sober eyes
a ritual unsustained.
The sun undress
to put down white ashes
and a drained chest.

The game

By the shallow stream
of shaded stones
sit two friends
who is one in one's mind

where the darker
are darker than the brighter
the brighter
brighter than the darker
handful of the assorted
more assorted than what are not

Then the game shall begin

One has the darker move ashore
One has the brighter join the stream
One cannot though
be more elaborate
than the other
whose dream one dwells

One wins over
a loser imagined
who triumphs
in a reign transverse

One left
who are two players
dreaming
and dreamt about.

Birth of a Dark Flower

Thoughts ornament
the sphere of waves
no longer standing
its own weight

Momentum of the fall
falls on momentum
down the crumbled
leaning on the dust

Eye of a pin
settles below
prairie of storm
the newly born
left the incomplete

Dark petals
scatter abroad
a heaven inverse
never again
seen

Young roots
inhale the depth of
a battered dawn.

Time

She sits and contemplates
on eternity
With an enveloped teabag
Lukewarm
In another enveloped world

Her mirror binds her
The shadow courts her
The web of cues
Plunged into the spindle
A puncture
Awakens time

She sits and contemplates
She sits.

Greenhouse

the green cropped the shadow of walls
the walls cropped the shadow of earth
the boors open their hearts
the boors open their doors
plunging in the red soil
the nails
scraping the soul

welcome to the new perimeter!
free-growing hoes
hang from
the frozen ceiling
mock as they swing

welcome to the new perimeter!
the earth opens its chest
the ground opens its vein
leaves shoot from their dreams
roots strangle the warmth

the boors take the green

the green cropped the shadow of men
the men cropped the shadow of earth
the boors open their guts
the boors open their brains
roots grip the red soil
roots grip the white soil
the skull opens the back door
the socket opens the front
here grows the tree

the tree of paper flowers
the boors take the green

Funerals are for the cannibals 食人族的葬礼

Funerals are for the livings not the dead
are plates embroidered
with words carved
they screams
at the blade of dark tears

prey on the dead
the imaginary parasites
like beads
driving a slanted plane

they slipped through
the throat of rituals
holding hands.

-

葬礼为生者
不为死者
是镶边的碟子
刻着字
对刀刃尖叫
黑色的泪

死的是猎物
是妄想的寄生虫
像钢珠
驾驭倾斜的平面

他们划入
仪式的喉咙
手拉着手

The last metamorphosis

The last metamorphosis
comes new, comes slim
dwindled causes
painted a thousand roads to fragments

Memories to be
tall and toeless
dancing off the beats
now they pose
for the next movement

There are no connections
other than the repeats

There are no repeats
there is no after after
as there is no before before

The grave is for flowers
the name will be watching
the name has been

Were you asked at the beginning
would you remember the last?

The last
metamorphosis

I and she

I was reflecting on myself, about an interesting behavior I've been observing: it is not that I don't understand what people mean by what they do or say, but I will still think and behave, in reaction, as if they truly meant well. I was thinking why, often.
Eventually I recalled the person that was half of my age and morphed into me. Let me call that person she, or he, or it, or whatever, just for convenience. She truly thought all people meant well by what they do or say to her. Actually, she didn't even think that, because there wasn't even the concept of aggression or being its target. Enlightenment finally struck: everything start to make more sense in hindsight if not all are benevolent.
I took over from there. I thought she left but she did not. She became my body, returned to Nature. I do not own her. I simply cannot avoid her, as she cannot avoid breathing without extreme efforts or consequences. She still thinks the way she used to think or not think. She talks to me, often.
If that is the case, I was mistaken. We in fact just got to be about the same age, or she is twice as old as me. Anyhow, I have been new and stupid until now. Now I can hear her better. Either I got mature enough to converse with her on an equal footing or she just learned some new language that easily gets through.
But what's I and what's she are always changing, or never change. But can I or can I not talk about the never changed?
I was writing this to answer her. Or do I mean it?

I was reflecting on myself,
about an interesting behavior
I've been observing:
it is not

I was thinking

But what's I

But can I or can I not
